CHIROPRACTIC AND GARDENING
With some lovely spring weather and time on our hands, the gardening season is in full swing.
This may be taking a toll on our backs and it is at this time of year that Chiropractors will often see an increase in back and joint problems from gardening activities.
TOP TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR BACK
- Warm up prorerly - Don't go straight in to exercise without warming up and stretching.
- Keep moving - It is very easy to become engrossed in gardening jobs. the best thing is to do one type of activity in one position for no more than 10 minutes at a time.
- Stop if it hurts- Don't carry on if you are feeling pain or a twinge. your body is telling you something
- Start gently and be patient- At first maybe just do 20 to 30 minutes gardening and then stop, however you feel. that last job can wait for anopther day
If you do experience any pain in your back during or after gardening, avoid the temptation to go in and lie down. it is generally better to keep moving with short spells of sitting or lying, limited to 10 -15 minutes at a time only.
you could try some simple stretches if possible and if the symptoms don't ease within a day or two then give us a call at Newmarket Chiropractic Clinic.
